This CD project was basically a packaging brief, we were told to choose a song or album and simply create the packaging for it, obviously making the concept relevant, interesting and experimental. This is how Vaughn Oliver the tutor for this project described the CD packaging industry.
The reason I chose the band All Time Low is because they were a band I was familiar with and a band with depth, especially at the time I chose them. They had just released the album Dirty Work and had just gone through personal and professional changes in their lives, the band were signing up with a new label for an example.
Generally the band are still rough around the edges trying to find their own sound their own identity, this is portrayed in the album by the diversity of the songs, so the design is supposed to show that through the collage imagery and hand written type.
The smartphone application project was given to me and I was told that I needed to make an application that people would find useful and interesting, of course there was a wave of initial ideas that were narrowed down to two; an emergency app and an anime/manga app.
The reason why I decided to go with the anime/manga app was because it was the most exciting of the two for me and simply because of the content it promised to have more design potential. Plus it interested me in the sense that I could use the knowledge gained through research on my dissertation and apply it to the design. With the subject of my app, the intention was to make it dynamic, aesthetically pleasing, practical and relevant.

The digital poster brief was given to me after the smartphone app brief was completed. It was an add on to the project, meaning the connections towards the content and knowledge that I used on the smartphone app brief gained from my dissertation was applied again. This project saw me use it in an advertising light, a quick straight to the point advertisement aimed at people that are on the move. The brief stated that the app would already be well known so this digital poster shouldn’t be too informative about what’s being advertised but rather purely make people want to use the app.
There were many ideas that were considered, ultimately it was the comedic/violent storyboard that was chosen because of the intended audience of the actual anime shows and manga that were being made available through the app, being aimed at young boys and teenagers this was the best route to explore in my opinion.
